I have a dream...

I have a dream that our rabbits will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their fur but by the content of their character.

You can find representatives of every rabbit breed and colour in sanctuaries around the UK. But some are more likely to be offered homes than others.

"We struggle to rehome white albinos and all black bunnies... The last white albino took nearly a year to rehome! And we have several more albino and black furry guys." - Rabbit Project, Greater Manchester

White rabbits with red eyes are often refered to as Albino, white rabbits can also have brown or blue eyes!

Agouti is often refered to as brown, but it is actually diiferent shades of brown/black/grey, the roots of the fur often being grey and the tips brown.

Looking for Home:

Of the 240 rabbits looking for homes 77 are in these harder to home categories.

They are very loveable and cuddly rabbits but because they come in pairs and because people tend to adopt young rabbits, these have become long-term residents at the rescue center.

Blizzard - Despite his background he is so good-natured, always at your feet nudging for a tickle and exploring for Britain. He is such a love. Blizzard is a white albino and quite a large-ish size, he is easy to handle and has no evident medical problems.
Ben - Ben is a lovely bunny, really soft and quiet yet he is also a little timid. He came in with 18 other rabbits after they were rescued from appauling conditions where up to 20 bunnies were kept in one dog cage.
Penny - She is a sweet natured, friendly rabbit. Due to her wild rabbit colouring nobody wants her. She was discarded by a family when the children lost interest in her. She has been at the sanctuary for more than a year.
Bobby - Black neutered male lop, waiting at the Hounslow Animal Welfare Society for a new home.
Ruskin - Neutered male lionhead waiting at the Hounslow Animal Welfare Society for a new home.
Naughty Nocturn is a very handsome chap who likes to get up to mischief! He loves to bound around the place and get up to all sorts noseying around. He has his nose into everything and he is never far from trouble!
Maggie is new to the haven. She is friendly and appreciates a tickle just behind the ears. She is easy to handle and loves a brush.
Snowball is Angora and Gismo is a medium lop. Snowball has just had her eye removed due to an infection and she is still getting used to the idea. She malts alot and will need regular grooming.

Rosie's Poem

Rosie wrote this to explain how she felt during her time spent looking for a new home.

Spare a thought for the bunnies who are always overlooked in Rescue.....

If only I were pretty
(Perhaps if my ears would stay down?!)
If I had some lovely colouring
Instead of boring old brown..

Rosie - an agouti/brown rabbit

Maybe then someone would notice me
And see what I have to give.
I am desperate for a new home,
Somewhere comfortable to live.

I see lots of people come and go,
But it's always another they choose,
And I try and look really pretty,
But I always seem to lose....

Being dumped in a cardboard box
Wasn't really all that funny,
'Cos you see, inside, I'm just as lovely
As any other bunny!!

Rosie

Rosie eventually found a new home with an owner who loved her just the way she is.
